Target Spring Campaign Includes Miami Band Hola Hi

Target Spring Campaign Espanol Hola Hi Spanglish Noise

I ran into Miami indie-pop band  Hola Hi at the Latin Billboard Top Stop Music Showcase, where the duo was excited to share that Target picked up their song "Aire de Primavera" for its 2013 spring campaign.  Not only does the song specifically reference spring, but its upbeat Spanish lyrics are a nice nod to the Hispanic community that leaves a positive impression.  My only thought is that it would be nice for Target to have included the band and song name in the YouTube video credits, but … [Read more...]

Monique – Stay (Rihanna Cover)

Monique Rihanna Stay Cover

It's been a while since we heard from Miami singer Monique Gonzalez, but she finally turned up again and seems to have been busy recording her EP out in LA with producers Dale Play and Ricky Luna.  For those of you who listened to the Monique interview, you probably noticed that she has a bit of fire in her personality.  The music business is a tough one and artists certainly need every bit of fire they can muster.  Today Monique sets this toughness aside for an intimate cover of Rihanna's … [Read more...]

La Santa Cecilia – El Hielo (ICE)

La Santa Cecilia El Hielo

It's difficult to discuss the topic of immigration without emotion.  When this theme is presented by the soulful vocals of "La Marisoul" and her flavorful Los Angeles band La Santa Cecilia, the message resounds with an added power that only music can provide.  The video follows the recent budget-friendly trend of lyric videos, but the social message presented in the piece is anything but simple. For those who don't know, "El Hielo" means "The Ice" in Spanish.  In the context of this song, … [Read more...]

International Boyz – Yo Te Quiero Asi

International Boyz Yo Te Quiero Asi

The soulful trio International Boyz dropped an energetic club track last summer "Mami Dime A Ver"  that showcased their ability to fuse together a diverse set of musical influences.  They have since been hard at work writing new songs and today I bring you the debut music video "Yo Te Quiero Asi."  All three singers present a common theme of acceptance and devotion, but each artist brings a unique sound that together lives up to their "International" image. Upon first listen, you might … [Read more...]

Maná – Hasta Que Te Conoci (Juan Gabriel Cover)

Mana

Mexican rock band Maná needs little introduction, considering the wide recognition of their name and the fact that they've won considerably more Latin Grammy's than Pitbull (surely a sign of success).  They recently released the compilation album Exiliados en la bahía and the video for the song "Hasta Que Te Conoci" ("Until I Met You"), which is a cover of the original by Juan  Gabriel.  While Maná really stayed true to the original rendition with the guitars and pained soulful expression … [Read more...]

Carla Morrison – Hasta La Piel

carla Morrison

In the world of music, no one voice is truly alike.  Whether it be a variation in quality, tone, color, inflection, or simply a difference in passion, there is always some way to distinguish the vocals of one artist from the next.  The only issue that arises from that statement is this: how does one determine the original basis from which to make such a judgment? While some may disagree, I advocate that Mexico's Carla Morrison has the closest female voice to "pure" that I have ever heard.  … [Read more...]
